Butyl rubber, also known as IIR (Isobutylene Isoprene Rubber), is a synthetic rubber with exceptional impermeability to gases. It is primarily composed of isobutylene with a small amount of isoprene. This unique molecular structure gives butyl rubber excellent gas impermeability. It is highly resistant to the diffusion of gases, making it ideal for applications that require airtight seals. Butyl can withstand high temperatures, exposure to ozone, weathering and UV radiation. It also has good electrical insulation, making it suitable for electrical insulation applications.
